which is both striking and useful.

and also a 10cm diameter lantern covered in fabric or paper and
decorated to your own design. These will make lovely gifts or
accessories for your own home.
A light lunch, refreshments and all materials are included, however do

3D Bag with Canadian Smocking Detail
Spend a day making a 3D ‘soft sculpture’ bag from cotton fabric of your
choice, with a Canadian smocking detail on the front. You will use handy
techniques including interfacing, ‘lining all in one,’ sewing on buttons
and fastenings and creating a 3D base as well as the Canadian smocking
technique, all of which can be applied to other sewing projects in the
future.
By the end of the day you will have a completed bag, or enough
information to finish your project at home. The bag would make a lovely
gift, handbag or craft project bag. Our tutor uses hers to take her
embroidery with her on holiday!
This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as experienced sewers,
as long as you have good control of straight stitch on a sewing machine.
A light lunch, refreshments and some materials are included, however you
will need to bring your own sewing machine and the fabric of your choice

onto your piece.
You will look at different designs (the tutor will bring along books,
tracing paper, coloured crayons) and how to shape the silver wire to
your design.
You will start by making sample strips on metal both with and without
flux in various colours, to help you decide and gauge colours for your
finished pieces.

• Learning firing techniques.
• Preparing enamels for wet-laying by grinding powders and suspending in
water.
• Dry sift powder enamel.

• Design your own colourful pattern for your design.
• Stone down and polish the enamel.

for our design.
• Dome your blanks using either a sandbag or doming block and hammer.
• Prepare your blank for adding enamel.
• On the copper blank you will add silver foil base.
• Using your chosen design, you will add silver wires using pliers and
tweezers to shape the wires, and fire in the kiln.
• Once your design is fired, you will start wet-laying enamel colours
you have prepared, firing after each layer.
• Once the enamels are level with your wires you will sand down and
re-fire.
• To complete you will polish your completed piece and add findings.
