Chinese Brush Painting – Chinoiserie
Chinoiserie started its life in the late 17th century. The English and Dutch traders were flooding the market with porcelain, silks, patterned fabrics and laquered furniture and artists were inspired by the exotic merchandise to create new designs.
The main characteristics of chinoiserie include depictions of distant mystical lands, fabulous birds and figures and intricate repeated patterns. The later 18th century saw its influence on exuberant Rococo style.
On today's workshop we will take a look at these archival designs. The aim is to create your own unique long chinoiserie banner/scroll using gold ink and vibrant colours. The size is roughly 65cms x 21cms when complete.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with previous art experience.
A light lunch, refreshments and most materials are included in the workshop fee, you will just need to bring your own gold ink.
