Mixed Media Landscapes with Stitching
Join us for a playful workshop creating landscape art from paint and
stitching. Mixed media is a wonderfully creative way to work – there are
no rules – just a willingness to have a go and experiment.
First you will create your own landscape art using intuitive and playful
painting techniques such as inks and bleach, watercolours and wax resist
on paper. Then you will work on your paintings using free machine
embroidery, effectively using stitch as a mark making tool to enhance
the painting. You can bring along your own photo to work from, choose
from a selection from the tutor, or invent your own imaginary view to
create a piece of work that can be framed and displayed or given as a
gift.
All skill levels welcome. No prior experience is necessary. Delny is an
experienced teacher and will guide you through the creative process and
respond to individual needs and ideas.
Please bring your own sewing machine. If you do not have one but want to
attend, please contact the college to discuss in advance.
All materials, light lunch and refreshments are included in the course
fee.

Make a Spinner Ring
Spend a day learning how to create a beautiful spinner ring.
First you will make a straight-sided silver band to a size of your
choice and a separate ‘spinner’ in brass or copper. Bring the two
together using a magical technique that makes the inner ring unfurl and
flute to capture the spinner whilst still allowing it to twirl. The
completed ring will be ready for you to wear or give as a gift by the
end of the day.
This course is suitable for complete beginners or improvers.
A light lunch, refreshments and all materials to make one spinner ring
are included in the course fee.

Make a Leather Cross Body Bag
On this one day course you will make a simple cross body bag. There are
two different sizes to choose from (21 x 16 x 6cm or slightly larger 23
x 19 x 7cm). You will get to choose your leather colour, buckles and
locks to make a bag that is individual to you. Many of the participants
on Sarah's previous workshop liked their bags so much that, rather than
give them as a gift, they ended up keeping them for themselves!
You will begin by learning the basic leather skills (or refreshing your
memory of them) by firstly learning and practicing how to hand stitch
leather. You will learn marking out, choosing appropriate leather, hand
saddle stitching and edge finishing.
Throughout the day you will do:
- Cutting out leather.
- Hand Saddle Stitching.
- Constructing a 3 dimensional bag.
- Cutting and making a strap.
- Riveting.
- Finish edges (burnishing).
- Attaching a buckle.
This workshop is suitable for beginners, but it is also great for people
with some experience.
All materials, light lunch and refreshments are included in the course
fee.

Basics of Chinese Brush Painting -
The Fish, the Flycatcher and
the Blossoms
Celebrate Chinese New Year with us in this new approach to the
introductory course on Chinese Brush Painting.
Chinese brush painting is about opening the mind to a completely new way
of creating imagery. Unlike in western art, simple birds, flowers,
leaves and insects are created by the stroke of a brush.
Working with Chinese ink and a brush, you will be introduced to the
basic strokes used to create simple images. You will then practice your
painting techniques using these to create images of a variety of
subjects. These often include leaves, branches, insects, teapots, lotus
flowers, and simple characters. This particular workshop will focus on
the fish, the flycatcher and the blossoms.
At the end of the session you will be shown how to display your finished
work on a fan or miniature screen.
This workshop is open to everyone, from complete beginners to those
wishing to improve their skills.
All materials, a light lunch and refreshments are included in the course
fee.

Silver Clay Play Day
Come and play with the possibilities of silver clay in this one-day
workshop.
With 10g of clay each to work with, you can choose what you will make,
with help and guidance from your tutor. Make a pendant, a pin brooch, a
ring or an earrings and pendant set. Add fireable stones, make moulded
shapes, or just sculpt something.
A discussion will take place first to make sure you get the best from
your clay and the day, then you will be guided through the construction,
firing and initial polishing of your piece. You can watch the
demonstration of other techniques to give you ideas for future projects.
Take home a solid silver piece at the end of the day, perfect for
yourself or as a unique gift for someone.
This course is suitable for beginners and improvers.
A light lunch, refreshments and 10g of silver clay are included in your
course fee. Additional clay, stones and fixings are available at an
extra cost, payable to your tutor on the day.
