Machine Embroidered Textile Landscapes

Spend a day combining loose, playful painting techniques with appliqué and free-motion embroidery, to create an expressive textile landscape.

This workshop is designed as an opportunity to ‘translate’ a favourite view or landscape, in a loose and experimental way. Creating a piece of textile work that can be simply hung as a wall-hanging, made into a cushion cover, or even a light-shade.

The day starts by laying down the base colours of your landscape on thick cotton canvas. No painting experience is needed for this stage, as you will be given plenty of opportunity to try out techniques and colour combinations. Having an image or photograph as a starting point is useful, as it will give you a colour palette to work with.

Once dry, these canvas pieces are torn into strips, which are then re-positioned and pinned down onto a second piece of canvas, before moving to machine-embroidery to add further detail and texture.
The final stage is to embellish these landscapes with beads and hand-embroidered stitching.

This workshop is suitable for anyone with basic knowledge of using the free-motion embroidery technique on their sewing machine.

A light lunch, refreshments and all materials are included, however please bring along your own sewing machine if you can.
