Upholstery
Join experienced upholsterer Mark Swain from The Little Furniture Shop for a day working on your own project. Mark will be on hand with expert guidance to help you revive your chair, stool or other portable piece of furniture.
There will be tools to borrow and a variety of sundry items like webbing and tacks available to buy for cash on the day, but please bring along your own furniture, stuffing and fabric, and any tools you are already using. By the end of the day you will have moved your project forwards and learned some new upholstery tips and techniques.
You don't need any previous upholstery experience - all levels are welcome. Please note that it may take several sessions to complete more complicated projects and that we will need advance notice of the item that you are bringing.
A light lunch and refreshments are included in the workshop fee.

Chinese Brush Painting Birds
Spend a day with us delving into the ever-popular Chinese brush painting.
Chinese birds painting can vary in styles hugely. There is the intricate method of Gongbi painting known as meticulous style, the quick strokes of Shuimo meaning water and ink, or Sheng - yi, translating as life and meaning.
The Sumi Japanese style captures the essence of the subject. The emphasis is placed on varying shade of grey to black and simple composition. Today's course will take both approaches, Chinese Shuimo and Japanese Sumi.
We will start with simple birds in several positions on branches, using black and white Sumi style followed by Shuimo. Our aim is to complete many compositions to choose from for the final design.
Chinese Xuan paper pre-prepared on board complete with hanging hooks will be the medium of choice.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those who have been on Chinese Brush Painting courses before.
All materials, a light lunch and refreshments are included in the workshop fee.

personal creation.
