Mindful Invisible Mending Inspired by Japanese Boro

Boro is a Japanese patching technique that was used to extend the life of domestic textiles. Clothes, quilts and futon covers were patched and repatched many times using simple patches layered together and running stitch. You will learn how to use different patching methods and the joy of slow stitching and how rewarding mending can be. You don't need lots of space or specialist tools for successful visible mending.

Visible mending is so on trend and popular and this is the perfect opportunity for you to find out why and have a go. It involves hand stitching, few rules and the opportunity to slow down and be in the moment. Visible mending celebrates the wear and tear that your clothes can acquire, and adds character. It also takes the pressure off trying to make your mends invisible.

By the end of the day you will have either mended an item of clothing in the boro style, or made a piece of patchwork that will be art in its own right.

A light lunch and refreshments are included in the workshop fee. Please bring along the clothes you want to mend, and the fabric you want to patch it with.
