Etching

Etching is a process which involves printing from a metal plate that has been ‘bitten’ by a caustic liquid. Once etched, a plate may be used many times to produce a series of prints. Etching used to be achieved with substances quite toxic to the environment. This workshop will use a safe etchant that can easily be neutralised and soluble, waterbased inks - both can be disposed of simply and safely.

Come and learn about the intaglio printing process and make your own unique etchings (10x15cm on 14x19cm paper) for framing, or for making into greetings cards or albums. We will produce as many plates/prints as time allows.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those who are looking to extend their printmaking skills.

All materials, a light lunch and refreshments are included in the workshop fee.

Watercasting Precious Metals

Have a go at a fun and sustainable metalworking skill in this half day watercasting workshop. Bring along any hallmarked silver or gold jewellery or small objects that you would like to transform into unique, organic new shapes: perhaps you have some broken items, or inherited
some jewellery that has meaning but doesn't suit your taste, for example, and you are looking for a way to make it your own.

With guidance from the tutor you will melt your metal in a crucible and then drop it into a container of water to create beautiful, undulating forms. Your tutor will let you know how you can use these to make your own jewellery at a later date, or join us for the Silver Jewellery in a
Day workshop on 30th October to turn your forms into completed pieces.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as more experienced jewellery makers.
