Woodworking Tool Sharpening
This morning workshop will cover sharpening of woodwork chisels, gouges,
plane irons and turning chisels in order to get the best results from
your tools.
The aim is to reduce, as much as possible, the ‘skill’ element of sharpening, which can be intermittent, with simple hacks to
sharpen woodworking tools reliably.
Bring along your own woodworking tools to sharpen if you have them,
although there will be tools available on the day for demonstration.

Hand Stitched Leather Satchel
Back by popular demand! On this one day workshop you will make a hand
stitched leather satchel, with a choice of two different sizes. The
course will begin with an introduction (or refresh) to basic leather
skills by firstly learning and practising how to hand stitch leather.
You will learn about marking out, how to choose appropriate leather,
hand saddle stitching and edge finishing.
Following this, everyone will proceed to make one unlined leather
satchel.
You will work from prepared patterns and you can choose from a range of
leathers to have your own bespoke colour combinations. By making small
alterations, such as changing stitch colour or choosing the buckles,
your finished bag will be unique to you.
Skills you will learn:
• Cutting out leather
• Hand Saddle Stitching
• Constructing a 3 dimensional bag
• Cutting and making a strap
• Riveting
• Finish edges (burnishing)
• Attaching a buckle
You will go home with either a large or small finished leather satchel:
Large: 25cms wide, 18cms high and 8cms deep
Small: 22.5cms wide, 16cms high and 6.5cms deep
This workshop is suitable for beginners, but it is also great for people
with some experience.
All materials, light lunch and refreshments are included in the course
fee.

Introduction to Relief Wood Carving
Spend a day learning the basic skills used in relief woodcarving,
including laying out of the design, setting-in, carving technique, tool
selection and sharpening. This takes place in a relaxed and positive,
can-do atmosphere with close supervision and plenty of demonstration.
Participants will be guided through a simple project of their own design
with a view to complete in one day.
By the end of the day you will take home a complete, or near-complete
carving of your own, as well as an understanding of the tools and
techniques needed to continue your own woodcarving in the future.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with
some woodcarving experience.
All materials, a light lunch and refreshment is included in the workshop
fee.
