Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine
This workshop is for students who need step by step guidance in setting up and using their sewing machine
Start by learning the basics of threading up, winding a bobbin, adjusting the tension and how to replace needled and feet. You will also learn how to use the various stitches and how to remedy problems with your stitching.
By the end of the workshop you will feel more confident about using your machine and come away with notes and samples that will help you to continue your sewing at home.
This workshop is suitable for students who have traditional or basic digital sewing machines. Students will be asked to send the Make and Model number of their machine to the tutor prior to booking a place so that she can confirm that she is able to work with them on their particular machine. This is due to the complexities in operating, and the time that can be involved in setting up some machines ready for use. Tutor’s contact details are available from the college.
For those students who have much more complex digital sewing machines, this workshop is probably not suitable.
Students will be required to bring along their own sewing machine and instruction manual.
Tutor will supply most materials. This cost is included in your course fee.

Monoprint And Collage
Create a line drawing and collage using a mixture of collage, mono printing and other media. This method, called direct trace drawing, produces a linear monotype that has a unique soft edged quality similar to the tone and line in soft ground etching.
Begin by using torn paper to make a simple collage, then rolling up printmaking ink onto a sheet of Perspex, draw on the back of the collage to transfer a mono print drawing on top of it.
Take your work further by working on top of the image with media of your choice, watercolour, inks, watercolour pastel etc.
