Kiln Carving Glass Sea Creatures
During this morning workshop you will create a 6mm thick textured clear
glass tile with your chosen sea creature design. This could be a
seahorse, crab, lobster, fish, octopus or shell, the choice is yours.
The term kiln carving was coined by Bullseye Glass USA to describe a
simple kiln forming process that achieves a base relief textured or
sculptured look in glass. The process involves cutting a design in
ceramic fibre paper then stacking glass on top of this pattern and
firing the piece in a kiln. During firing the underside of the glass
conforms to the ceramic fibre paper pattern, assuming its contours and
textures. The result is a 3D effect piece.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners or those looking to
practice this glass technique.
All materials are included in the workshop fee. Please note that your
tile will be fired overnight to be collected or posted at a later date.
