SILVER CLAY LEAVES

New course added

This half day workshop is designed to introduce you to the amazing qualities of silver clay. You will create stunning silver jewellery from a real leaf through the processes of pasting, sanding and firing. By adding antiquing colour and polishing, transform your leaves into a beautiful necklace or earrings that you can take home with you.

STARTING SILVER CLAY

Create a unique piece of silver jewellery through this very versatile medium. During this workshop, you will practise rolling, shaping, texturing and cutting techniques, creating a beautiful, lentil shaped pendant to your own design. Learn how to prepare your work for firing and how to finish your work to a professional standard.

ANODISED ALUMINIUM

Using a selection of water based dyes, permanent markers and inks, spend most of the day dyeing and patterning aluminium and then fixing the colours to make them permanent. Aluminium is a very easy metal to work with and, in the last part of the workshop, you will cut some simple shapes to make pendants or earrings and look at other exciting possibilities. This is a very easy craft to continue at home.

SILVER JEWELLERY WEEKEND

A fabulous weekend of silver jewellery-making giving you the opportunity to cover the basic skills in more depth. Starting with basic bench skills and soldering, you will progress to ring, bangle and pendant making. Working first in copper and then progressing to sterling silver, create one of each to your own simple design and size. Finally, you will be shown how to polish and finish your work to a professional standard.

MORE ANODISED ALUMINIUM

Start the workshop by learning how to add and fix colour to both tubing and sheet aluminium. Follow this by exploring different ways of adding texture to the metal, giving finished pieces added interest. Your coloured tubing will then be cut to make beads of different lengths. Finish by turning some of your pieces into simple items of jewellery. You will be shown how to complete more pieces at home using non-specialist tools.

SCULPTING SILVER CLAY

An exciting new silver clay workshop learning how to sculpt the clay into 3D objects. Learn how to break down your chosen object into simply shaped parts, how to assemble those parts and, then, add fine details by carving texture and definition into your final shape. Turn your finished piece into a beautiful little pendant. Due to time constraints, we advise that you choose a very simple shape to sculpt.

An exciting new half day workshop. Discover how to enhance silver clay by adding a splash of colour. You will start by designing and making a simple silver pendant from Art clay silver. You will then learn how to mix and add cold UV resin, adding a splash of colour and vibrancy to your design.

FUSED GLASS JEWELLERY

An exciting half day workshop exploring the possibilities of combining decorative inclusions with fused glass to make up to five unique pieces of jewellery. Experiment with clear sheet glass, copper sheet and wire, delicate metal leaf and sparkling mica powders, combining to create beautiful effects. All work made during the day will need to be fired in a kiln and collected at a later date. Jewellery fittings will be supplied but not fitted.

CABOCHON SETTING

Cabochon-cut stones differ from faceted having smooth, domed tops and flat bases. Through guided tuition, explore the versatile and accessible technique of cabochon setting. Once the fabricating steps have been mastered, this method may be used to 'set' or hold a variety of shapes in place on a piece of jewellery. Some previous experience of jewellery-making and soldering practice is desirable for this workshop.
