Silver Clay With Fireable Stones.

An introduction to the amazing qualities of silver clay.  An exciting one day workshop to create your own unique piece of silver jewellery. Discover the versatility of this medium through rolling, texturing and cutting techniques. Learn how to combine both clay and fireable stones, how to prepare your pieces for firing and how to professionally finish your work to a high standard.

You will be provided with enough silver clay to make a small pendant or a pair of small earrings. This cost is included in your fee.  If you wish to add jewellery findings, earring wires or a trace chain, these will be extra and the cost will be payable to your tutor on the day.

This workshop is suitable for both beginners and improvers.

A picnic lunch will be provided.

Silver Chain Bracelet

Learn the beautiful and ancient technique of Etruscan silver chain making and make a simple bracelet complete with a silver hand made or ready made toggle clasp. Start by learning how to make links with copper wire to practise your weave and then move on to silver wire to make your bracelet. Finish by adding your chosen fastening.

There is a materials cost of £20 included in your course fee which will enable you to make one silver bracelet

The tutor will provide all materials for this workshop.

This workshop is suitable for both beginners and improvers.

An Introduction To Silversmithing – 5 Day Course

Learn traditional and contemporary silversmithing techniques on this five day course. It is a rare opportunity to practise a range of techniques and study the cross-overs between jewellery and three dimensional form in metal with the option of creating a finished piece or pieces.

Day one: Puzzle Inlay.
Cut and shape two separate pieces of sheet metal so that they fit together like puzzle pieces and blend as if one. Optional outcome; a sample of inlay.

Day two: Press Forming.
Use doming punches, vices, hammers and formers to learn how to make dish and bowl shapes in sheet metal. Optional outcome; a spoon or bowl.

Days three and four: Soldering Tips and Practise.
A great introduction to the art of soldering, also an opportunity for intermediate makers to troubleshoot any challenges with this versatile technique. Optional outcome; a round, oval or square box with a lid.

Day five: Scoring and Mitreing.
Score, file and bend sheet metal to create a variety of shapes and forms. Optional outcomes; a square or rectangular picture frame, a conical ring keep.

There is a cost of £50 per student included in the course fee for basic materials.   This will cover wire, tubing and sheet in a selection of base metals such as copper, brass and gilding metal.

Your tutor will also give guidance about how to buy precious metals if students would like to add silver and gold to their pieces.

This course is suitable for both beginners and for those students who wish to develop their jewellery making skills.

A picnic lunch will be provided on each day of the course.

An Introduction to Silver Clay

You will learn a variety of techniques including rolling, texturing and shaping on the mould. After firing you will burnish your work and then, if you wish to, add either earring findings or a chain to finish.

There is a cost included in your course fee for enough silver clay to enable you to make one simple pendant or a pair of earrings. If you require more clay for extra pieces this extra cost will be payable to your tutor on the day. Your tutor will also bring along chains, beads and headpins which can be purchased if required.

This workshop is suitable for both beginners and improvers.

Silver Clay Charm Bracelet

Create a simple silver charm bracelet or anklet on this half day workshop which is designed to introduce you to the amazing qualities of silver clay.

Learn how to handle the clay and then practise rolling out, texturing and cutting. You will be shown how to use moulds to create your charms and then how to sand and prepare your work for firing. After the firing process, polish and prepare your work before attaching to a simple silver chain.

There is a cost included in your course fee for enough silver clay to enable you to make one simple charm bracelet or anklet .If you require more clay for extra pieces this extra cost will be payable to your tutor on the day.

Silver Jewellery in a Day

Spend a day learning simple techniques to produce your own metal jewellery. Practise tool use and model-making in copper first, then lose yourself in the magical process of turning silver into unique pieces of jewellery before your very eyes! Create one or two beautiful pieces of
simple jewellery to take home.

There is a cost of £10 for silver included in your course fee. This will enable you to make one piece of silver jewellery. Should you wish to make extra pieces of jewellery on the day, you will need to pay your tutor for any extra silver or copper that you may use.

The tutor will provide all materials for this workshop.
