  INTRODUCTION TO SOFT FURNISHINGS

Learn how to make simple furnishings to brighten your home. For absolute beginners, start with an introduction to using your sewing machine . Surprise yourself how quickly you can progress to making simple cushion covers, lined curtains and Roman blinds. If you have a specific project in mind, please contact us at least 2 weeks prior to the workshop date so that this can be discussed with your tutor.

  LAMPSHADES

Have you ever wanted to make a lampshade to match your soft furnishings, or transform that piece of vintage fabric into something useful? This relaxed and supportive half day workshop introduces you to the simple techniques and tools required to make a basic 30cms drum lampshade. A range of attractive cotton print fabrics is available for you to choose from if you wish. Materials: £15 maximum

  MINI SHADES AND FAIRY LIGHTS

Mini lampshade making is an ideal course for all abilities. This half day workshop will instruct you how to make a set of 12 LED mini lampshades using PVC backed fabric or paper. Customise your shades with your own embellishments of braids, ribbons and bows. Paper and fabrics are available for you to choose from. Materials: £20 maximum.

HOW TO USE YOUR SEWING MACHINE

This workshop is created specially for those students who need step by step guidance in setting up and using their sewing machine. Start by learning the basics of threading up, adjusting the tension and how to replace needles and feet. Discover what all of those dials and switches do! By the end of the workshop you will feel more confident about using your machine and will make a simple cushion cover with your newly acquired skills!

  CURTAIN MAKING

This workshop focuses on how to make a small pair of simple lined curtains. Learn how to measure your windows for your curtain size, how to choose your fabrics and work with repeat patterns. You will be guided through the processes of cutting out, sewing together your fabric and linings, and how to add your header tape. Students will need to supply their own fabric for this workshop but advice will be available from your tutor prior to attending.
